From 7 activists to 12 billion UAH in assistance to the country: CO “100% Life” is celebrating its 25th anniversary

For a quarter of a century, Ukraine’s largest patient organization has helped millions of people, supported the healthcare system during the war, and become a driver of affordable, digital, and non-discriminatory medical care.

Kyiv, May 5, 2026 — The charitable organization “100% Life” is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Founded in 2001 by seven activists fighting for the rights of people with HIV to treatment, dignity, and life, the organization today operates in 24 regions and is the largest patient organization in Ukraine.

Over the past 25 years, “100% Life” has raised and distributed approximately 12 billion UAH in donor, charitable, and humanitarian assistance. Over the past fifteen years alone, UAH 3.5 billion was allocated for the purchase of medical products, medicines, and equipment. CO “100% Life” has supported 1,000 civil society organizations (CSOs), carried out 6,800 deliveries of medical goods and services throughout Ukraine, and paid more than UAH 390 million in taxes.

“Twenty-five years ago, we began as individuals fighting for our right to live. Today, over 1 million people have undergone HIV testing in our programs, and 2.5 million have received humanitarian assistance amid full-scale warfare. Over the past ten years, we have delivered approximately 900 aircraft loads of humanitarian aid to Ukraine. Throughout these years of fighting for a decent life for people living with HIV, we have fought for every life—for every Ukrainian’s right to affordable medical care, fair medicine prices, and humane treatment without discrimination. Life has become the main criterion for the changes that we and our partners are implementing in Ukraine,” says Dmytro Sherembey, Chairman of the Coordination Council of CO “100% Life”

25 years in figures

  • About UAH 12 billion in donor, charitable and humanitarian assistance raised and distributed
  • UAH 3.5 billion invested in the procurement of medical devices, medicines and equipment over the past 15 years
  • 2.5 million people received humanitarian support during the full-scale war
  • 53 million doses of ARV drugs urgently delivered to ensure continuity of treatment for people living with HIV during the first months of the full-scale invasion
  • Over a million people have been tested for HIV through the organization’s projects
  • 24 regions in which the organization’s branches and charitable programs operate

From access to treatment to a new culture of care

People have always been at the heart of every “100% Life” project. In recent years, one out of every three new HIV cases in Ukraine was identified through the organization’s projects. Thanks to the organization’s advocacy efforts and those of its partners, the cost of antiretroviral treatment in Ukraine decreased 27-fold, and the cost of hepatitis C treatment decreased by 81%.

For “100% Life,” the new standard of care encompasses not only treatment but also accessibility, respect for patients, protection from discrimination, continuity of therapy, digital services, and a comprehensible pathway through the healthcare system.

Assistance during the war

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, “100% Life” has provided a safe haven for patients, hospitals, communities, social workers, and individuals who have lost their homes, access to treatment, and a sense of security. The team has urgently organized the delivery of 53 million doses of antiretroviral drugs for people living with HIV, created a chain of shelters, and transferred nearly 3 billion UAH of humanitarian and charitable assistance. Additionally, 2.5 million people in frontline regions have received food kits and fresh bread.

Healthcare centers, eHealth and digital solutions

The organization is developing its own chain of “100% Life” healthcare centers in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Poltava, and Rivne. These modern clinics were created by a patient organization to ensure quality, safe, and non-discriminatory medical care for everyone.

“100% Life” also played a key role in the development of eHealth, one of the largest digital transformations in modern Ukraine. Currently, over 35 million patients are registered in the electronic healthcare system. The organization’s team created the digital monitoring system, ITC “DATACHECK UKRAINE,” which allows real-time verification and tracking of services received by patients.  About 8.8 million services have been verified within national projects working in this system.

Other digital solutions include Complete Care4You for people living with HIV, HIVtest for risk assessment and service discovery, and NGO Management for NGO management.

Rule-changing advocacy

The Fight for Health expert platform focuses on improving access to treatment, reforming drug policies, protecting human rights, decriminalizing HIV, improving access to medical cannabis, and reforming patents. The team developed and promoted changes to approximately 100 laws, regulations, orders, and strategic documents.

The organization has systematically responded to new challenges. During the Revolution of Dignity, the organization’s office operated as a field hospital for victims on the Maidan. During the pandemic, the team built 20 oxygen stations at hospitals. Currently, during the full-scale war, the organization provides continuity of treatment, humanitarian support, and assistance to medical institutions.

Today

Today, “100% Life” includes 24 regional branches, 437 active organizational members, 4 healthcare centers, and approximately 250 projects spanning 25 years. The organization has also undergone 85 independent audits with unconditionally positive conclusions.

For 25 years, the organization has proven that the patient community can protect its rights and support and change the state system of care. This has been achieved through courage, motivation, innovation, and the organization’s core value: life.
