“Thank You for Life”: A Wave of Gratitude Swept Across Ukraine for World AIDS Day

On December 1, for World AIDS Day, the largest patient organization, 100% Life, launched the “Thank You for Life” campaign. Activists, representatives of the government, international partners, and donors gathered on December 1 to talk about the current challenges and solutions so that even during the full-scale war, Ukrainians living with HIV have the tools to manage their health.

On this day, activists around the world come out to remind everyone that HIV remains a challenge for the global health system. Despite the fact that in 2025 there was a historic global funding crisis and HIV prevention services have been seriously disrupted worldwide, the Ukrainian patient community seeks to demonstrate the resilience of the country and of the communities that are strengthening efforts to protect the progress achieved and to advance the response.

“We, as a foundation, are living through one of the most difficult times in our history. For Ukraine and its people, the war is the greatest challenge to principles, work, and priorities. But a culture of gratitude is one of the foundations on which we rely. We never forget the people who were and who remain with us on the path to overcoming the HIV epidemic in Ukraine. For decades, international donors have believed in and supported us, the civil sector, in building new systems. I want to thank them for all the technical and humanitarian support, for every dollar and innovation they have shared with us and continue to support us with on the path of change,” said Dmytro Sherembey, Head of 100% Life.

By December 1, 100% Life launched the #ThankYouForLife campaign — a wave of gratitude to everyone who saves lives every day, supports, fights, helps, funds, and inspires. Activists, partners, and anyone willing are demonstrating the power of solidarity, thanking both for international support and emphasizing the importance of every contribution — from our defenders to doctors and volunteers, from a social worker to a friend nearby. Videos and posts can be found under the hashtag #ThankYouForLife.

In Ukraine, during the full-scale war, HIV testing, prevention programs, and HIV treatment remain available. ARV therapy is lifelong and free of charge for patients.
